As we enjoy these last days of summer it’s also time to start thinking about back to school. Planning a structured routine can be important to help your child feel comfortable returning to school.

As parents and educators we want our children to thrive and succeed in school and in their chosen activities. Most children thrive on routine. Why is it important to have a routine prepared for your child to return to school?

  1. Identifying routines that work for your child and family in advance allows time to test your ideas and make changes if necessary so you’re not struggling the first days of school.  For parents who have children with developmental delays, it’s especially important to ease their child back into school.
  2. With a routine, children learn exactly what is expected of them such as creating a bedtime routine – what time to go to bed, how to get ready for bed and the next school day, and allows for relaxation for the child and parent after a long day.
  3. Arrange a tour of the child’s school so they can meet their teacher.  This is especially important for children who may have anxiety or fear about attending school.

Phoenix Behavioral Health can help prepare your child for back to school.  For those who are on the Autism spectrum, our ABA program can help children become successful in both the school and home environments. For more information call, 920-657-1780.  Appointments are now available.
