What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disorder that impacts the nervous system. The symptoms of the disorder can vary widely, from very severe to quite moderate. The symptoms include delayed language and communication skills, difficulty and/or lack of interest in social interactions, obsessive tendencies, and repetitive or stereotyped behaviors. The cause of Autism remains unknown.
The most recent statistics show that ASD affects 1 in 59 children. Initial signs typically appear during the early childhood years. Early diagnosis and intervention are key to a successful future and can result in significant improvement in symptoms.
